New chapter for careers service in Fife
Residents in Cowdenbeath will soon benefit from changes to the careers service.
Residents in Fife will soon find it even easier to visit a careers adviser.
Skills Development Scotland (SDS), who deliver the national career service, is changing location to be more accessible to customers.
National skills body SDS offers free, impartial careers information, advice and guidance in secondary schools and for people of all ages in centres and community venues across Scotland.
As part of the change, SDS is moving to the Maxwell Centre on Stenhouse Street in Cowdenbeath on 20 October. The move brings career services into a more centralised location in the town with improved facilities for customers. The team will move out of the careers centre at The Yard, 411 High Street on the same day.
Evonne Boyd, SDS Head of Operations North East explains: “Our professionally qualified careers advisers are moving into the Maxwell Centre where they will provide expert services in a popular community space which is fully accessible and has onsite childcare facilities. We’ll be up and running from Friday 20 October and be available for customer appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

Fife Council’s Community Manager for the Cowdenbeath area, Anne-Marie Vance, said: "We look forward to welcoming Skills Development Scotland to their new home within the Maxwell Centre. One of our priorities is to improve the wrap-around support that we're able to provide to the community and having SDS work more closely with us means local people will find it easier to access co-ordinated help when the need it most."
SDS advisers work across the country supporting anyone looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break.
Customers can contact the local SDS team on 01383 745 610, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
