Stranraer residents to benefit from changes to the career service
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is changing location in Stranraer as part of a drive to help more people through partnership working in community venues.
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is changing location in Stranraer as part of a drive to help more people through partnership working in community venues.
SDS advisers offer free, impartial career information, advice, and guidance for people of all ages in secondary schools, centres and community venues across Scotland.
SDS is moving to a new venue in the Stranraer campus of Dumfries and Galloway College on Tuesday 7 May. Customers will be able to meet an adviser there Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
This is in addition to our presence in various community venues in Stranraer including:
- Stranraer Jobcentre Plus (Thursdays 10am - 3pm)
- Newton Stewart Library (Tuesdays 10am - 4pm)
- South Machars Community Centre, Whithorn (Thursdays 10am - 4pm).
As part of the change, the team will move out of the careers centre at 7 South Strand Street on Wednesday 1 May.
Shona Mitchell, SDS Head of Operations South explains: “Our team in Stranraer will continue to provide professionally qualified careers advice in our new home in the Stranraer campus of Dumfries and Galloway College. We’ll be delivering service there from Tuesday 7 May 2024 and customers will be able to meet with our advisers by appointment Monday to Friday."
The college is a modern and accessible location for our customers and just a short distance away from our current base. We’re excited at the prospect of continuing to deliver exceptional levels of service to residents in Stranraer and the surrounding area.

SDS advisers work across the country supporting anyone looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break.
