Changes to the career service in Midlothian
Residents across Midlothian now have more choice about where and when they can speak to a careers adviser
Residents across Midlothian now have more choice about where and when they can speak to a careers adviser.
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is now using a range of local community sites to deliver its services.
SDS advisers offer free, impartial career information, advice and guidance for people of all ages in secondary schools, centres and community venues across Scotland.
In preparation for this change, the SDS Dalkeith team has moved out of the career centre on Dalkeith’s Eskbank Road.
Evonne Boyd, SDS Head of Operations East explains: “Although we’ve moved out of our Dalkeith centre, customers will still be able to access face-to-face career information, advice and guidance in the Dalkeith area as we make use of community sites to make ourselves more available to our customers.
“And from mid-July, our professionally qualified careers advisers will also be available for appointments two days a week in the Eskbank Campus of Edinburgh College, which is under a mile away from our current location.
“In addition to this, customers will also be able to make an appointment to visit a careers adviser in other places like libraries and community centres in Penicuik and Gorebridge. This will give customers across Midlothian more flexibility about where and when they visit us and is great news for customers who previously had to travel to Dalkeith to speak to a careers adviser.
We’re looking forward to reaching more customers across the area and working closely with our partners in these areas to deliver community-based career services that are accessible for more people.

Edinburgh College Vice Principal Michael Jeffrey added: “We are looking forward to welcoming the Skills Development Scotland team to our Midlothian Campus. The College has a long and well-established partnership with SDS which will only be strengthened by their permanent presence on campus, providing increased career and skills development opportunities for our students.”
Customers can contact the Midlothian team on 0131 663 7287 to make an appointment, whatever stage they’re at in their career.
