Dumbarton residents to benefit from changes to the career service
Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has changed location in Dumbarton as part of a drive to help more people through partnership working in community venues.
SDS has moved to a new venue in the West Dunbartonshire Council building at 16 Church Street, Dumbarton. As part of the change, the team moved out of the careers centre on High Street.
The move from High Street supports the need to deliver value for money and efficiencies for investment in public services. Co-location in public sector partner premises such as West Dunbartonshire Council brings the benefit of cost savings and enables SDS to increasingly deliver career services in more convenient locations for customers.
National skills body SDS offers free, impartial career information, advice and guidance in secondary schools and for people of all ages across Scotland.
Sharon Kelly, SDS Head of Operations West explains: “Our team in Dumbarton will continue to provide professionally qualified careers advice in our new home in the West Dunbartonshire Council building, which is just a short distance away from our previous base.
“This new location will enable us to work more closely with our colleagues at West Dunbartonshire Council’s Working4U team to give residents the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of both organisations under one roof."
We’re excited at the prospect of continuing to deliver exceptional levels of service to residents in Dumbarton and the surrounding area. Customers can meet our advisers there on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9.30am-4.30pm.

Customers also have the option of making an appointment to visit an adviser at the SDS career centre in Clydebank’s Clyde Shopping Centre if that is more convenient for them.
SDS advisers work across the country supporting anyone looking to get into work, change career, upskill or reskill, or re-join the workforce after a career break.
Customers can contact the local SDS team on 01389 761421, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
