Dhruv’s Graduate Apprenticeship is the perfect solution to his passion for problem solving
Graduate Apprentice Dhruv Maheshwari's passion for analytics is helping his employer improve efficiency and boost customer satisfaction.
The teenager secured a Graduate Apprenticeship in Data Science with premium drinks firm Diageo after an HNC in cyber security at City of Glasgow College.
The 19-year-old uses his technical expertise and excellent communication skills to transform complex datasets into meaningful insights which have informed strategic decisions, improved operational efficiency and boosted customer satisfaction.
Dhruv, of Bishopbriggs, Glasgow, is already seen as a key player who can work across different teams.

He said: “I used to be quite shy and introverted before starting my Graduate Apprenticeship but my confidence has skyrocketed as a result of being in such a supportive environment at Diageo.
“Having the chance to work with industry experts is huge and helped boost my technical skills and learning.
“Earning while I learn and being able to save money for the future is great too.”
One of Dhruv’s major accomplishments is his work on Order Managements Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
He created a detailed reporting system which helped achieve a 14% improvement on orders processed right first time and reduced errors and delays.
Dhruv, who spends one day a week at Glasgow Caledonian University, constantly seeks to develop his technical expertise so that he can solve complex challenges independently. He recently used his technical skills to automate processes that saved his team seven hours of manual work each week.
Dhruv plans to continue progressing within Diageo when he finishes his Graduate Apprenticeship and would love to travel with the business too.
His dedication has led to him being a finalist in the Graduate Apprentice of the Year category at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.
Graduate Apprenticeships are a way to get qualified up to a Master’s degree level while in paid employment.
Designed by education and employers, Graduate Apprenticeships are made for business to support key sectors that need highly skilled employees.
Diageo Senior Business Leader Liam Russell said: “Dhruv is a pleasure to work with.
“He has a huge amount of curiosity and approaches problems with a positive attitude, which has helped him build trust across a range of stakeholders, including those at a senior level.
“He brings people together and they warm to his bright personality.
“Graduate Apprentices are our future business leaders. They bring in the skills, talent and innovation that enable us to keep pace with technological advances.”
Glasgow Caledonian University Head of the Department of Computing Dr James Paterson said: “Dhruv has achieved some outstanding results in his academic studies and shows a particular excellence in maths, probability and statistics.
“A key aspect of work-based learning is reflection on learning through projects in the workplace. Dhruv has applied himself to projects in automation and optimisation of reporting on supply chain data at Diageo which have contributed to his academic outcomes.”
The winner of the Graduate Apprentice of the Year category will be revealed at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, which takes place 27 February in the run up to Scottish Apprenticeship Week (3 to 7 March). Find out more about the award finalists and the event by visiting apprenticeships.scot.
