Skills Development Scotland Diane Brooks Sds Park Circus028

Careers advisers are there to help so that parents and carers can feel confident in supporting their young person make informed decisions in their career journey.

 P7/S1transition

  • When young people are making the transition from P7 to S1, careers advisers attend parent and carer events to outline the support on offer
  • Career management skills are introduced, and parents and carers are encouraged to register for a free account on My World of Work and visit the dedicated parent and carer area for information and advice

 Option choices

  • In S2 or S3 (depending on the year option choice activity takes place in school), careers advisers attend parent and carer events that focus on this activity. This is to support them in helping their young person consider their career management skills and make informed decisions

Senior phase option choices

  • Careers advisers attend parent and carer evenings and events throughout the senior phase to support informed decision-making
  • My World of Work’s dedicated parent and carer area provides information and resources to help with career conversations

One-to-one

  • Parents and carers also have the opportunity of a one-to-one with a careers adviser. This could be attending a one-to-one with their young person and careers adviser. Or, it could be at a separate time that is more convenient
  • The offer of a one-to-one allows the parent or carer to receive tailored support in line with their individual needs and the needs of their young person
  • To find out more about the arrangements for these one-to-one discussions in your school, it is best to get in touch with the school directly
