Inside Scotland's Engineering sector
From space exploration to agricultural, engineers use science and maths to design, manufacture, maintain and repair everything from computer chips to aircraft carriers. Engineering employed over 135,000 people in Scotland last year which increases to 185,000 If you include Food & Drink Manufacturing. Scotland is working to expand High Value Manufacturing (HVM) which uses cutting edge technology in areas like, SpaceTech, photonics, marine, BioTech or Biotechnology.

Inside Scotland's Financial Services sector
Financial Services covers areas like banking, investment and insurance and employed almost 70,000 people in Scotland last year.
It is closely linked to Professional or Business Services - accounting, solicitors, collection agencies and management consultancy - which employed just under 60,000 people.
Scotland also has a thriving Financial Technology or FinTech sector. There is work to position Scotland as a global leader in FinTech, Green Finance and ESG – Environmental, Social & Governance.

Inside Scotland's Forestry sector
19% of land in Scotland is covered in forest, including commercial plantations, mixed woodlands, urban forests and even rainforests. Over 25,000 people in Scotland are employed in maintaining, managing, harvesting and expanding these forests. Work is underway to expand Scotland’s forests with more people needed in everything from hands on planting, specialist crafts like fencing, machine operators for felling, through to roles in environmental science, data and economics.

Inside Scotland's Tourism sector
Last year almost 180,000 people worked in the Tourism sector in hotels, accommodation, camping grounds, restaurants, museums and visitor attractions. The number of people employed in the sector is expected to increase and there is a strong focus on Fair Work, looking after staff as well as equality & diversity in recruitment. The National Tourism Strategy, Scotland Outlook 2030, sets out a vision for Scotland to become “the world leader in 21st century tourism”.

The Life & Chemical Sciences sector employed over 27,000 people in Scotland last year. With a strong focus on innovative research and manufacture, Scotland has particular strengths in Pharmaceutical services, Industrial Biotechnology, Digital Health, Medtech, Animal health, Aquaculture and Agritech.
