Regional Skills Assessments

Regional Skills Assessments (RSAs) provide a consistent evidence base to inform future investment in skills, built up from existing datasets and forecasts.

Skills Development Scotland has worked with key partners and stakeholders in the production of RSAs to ensure an inclusive approach to their development, dissemination and utilisation.

RSAs are published annually, covering all Regional Outcome Agreement areas, City and Growth Deal Regions and Rural Scotland. The RSAs offer detailed information on regional labour markets across the country. The data included in these publications, including Oxford Economics forecast data, is the most up-to-date available at the time of writing. A separate technical note is available to provide more information on the main datasets utilised within the RSAs.

To provide additional context, this year, we have also published a report on Scotland’s Labour Market Drivers. This provides an overview of the drivers expected to have the greatest influence on Scotland’s labour market outlook, based on a comprehensive analysis of structural and cyclical factors. The full report can be found here.

The latest release of the RSAs includes 23 reports. In addition, RSA summary infographics for these regions, as well as for each local authority, can be found at the bottom of this page or here.

Data Matrix

Additional regional labour market information can also be found in our Data Matrix. This is an interactive tool that is regularly updated, and provides data from a variety of sources.
